 Tips for answering literature questions

 (Long answers)

The long answer questions in literature try to assess student’s depth of understanding of a lesson and ability to write critical appreciation of the text but many students, instead of selecting relevant ideas form the text, they write all points that they know from the lesson. This not only makes the answer lengthy and time consuming but also spoils the special the structure of their essay. Writing is a craft and one has to carefully choose the relevant points and organize them logically. Only then the presentation will be effective.

Once this is over one can plan his drafting with a powerful topic sentence, one paragraph on each idea selected in a simple and lucid style and language with an appropriate lead sentence. In this way, students know exactly how their answers develop and can exercise good control over the matter and manner of their writing. This, in turn helps them to achieve exceptional clarity in their writing. Once they have presented all their ideas, they can attempt a conclusion stating how what they have written answers well the questions asked.
